Warden Messages

Warden Message December 21, 2007

The U.S. Embassy alerts U.S. citizens residing and/or traveling in Belgium that the U.S. government believes there is currently a heightened risk of terrorist attack in Brussels. The Embassy has no information to indicate that U.S. citizens or facilities are an intended target. However, U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance, especially in crowded public places, to remain aware of local events, take appropriate steps to bolster their personal security, and to heed police instructions.

Warden message  Demonstration  December 21, 2007

This Warden Message is being issued to alert U.S. Citizens traveling to and residing in Brussels that the Belgian police have informed the Embassy that an unauthorized demonstration is planned to take place on Friday, December 20, 2007, starting at 2 p.m. in front of the American Embassy (Boulevard du Régent – Regentlaan 27, 1000 Brussels, Belgium) and the Embassy of Turkey (Rue Montoyer, 4, 1000 Brussels).  The duration of the demonstration is unknown as is the number of participants. This Warden Message expires on December 22, 2007.

As with any demonstration we wish to remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations.

Warden message – Demonstration – December 19, 2007

This Warden Message is being issued to alert U.S. Citizens traveling to and residing in Brussels that the Belgian police have informed the Embassy that a demonstration to protest (a) against a possible US military invasion of Iran and (b) against the current Iranian regime will take place on Saturday, December 22, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. in front of the U.S. Embassy (Boulevard du Regent/Regentlaan 27, 1000 Brussels); and at 1:00 p.m. in front of the Embassy of Iran (Avenue F. D. Roosevelt/ F.D. Rooseveltlaan, 15, 1050 Brussels).  The demonstration is being organized by Iranian Students and will encompass approximately 50 to 200 protestors.   This Warden Message expires on December 20, 2007.

Consular Section closed on October 10, 2007

The Consular Section of the United States Embassy in Brussels will be closed, except for previously-scheduled visa interviews, on Wednesday, October 10, 2007. For emergency services, please contact the Embassy switchboard at 02-508-2111. The Section will reopen on Thursday, October 11 during normal business hours.
