Hours of Operation
For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov/, where the current Worldwide Caution, Public Announcements, and Travel Warnings can be found. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the U.S., or, for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).

Emergencies:
U.S. Passports/Citizenship services:
in case of an emergency, doors will be open between 9 and 10 a.m., only after calling one of the three above stated phone numbers or in agreement with the duty officer.
Special Consular Services:
for emergencies involving Financial Assistance; Arrests/Incarcerations; Medical Emergencies; Death of U.S. Citizens Abroad, contact one of the 3 numbers provided above under “Special Consular Services” or the duty officer after hours. In case of problems contacting the Special Consular Services unit, call the main number (+32) (0)2 508 21 11 and, explaining that you are calling about an emergency, ask that you be connected to a consular employee or officer.
